History

Agiskoviner was formed in November 2004 by Gary Kristensen MBE under the concept of a senior road team underpinned and supported by a normal club structure. Sponsorship came via Peter Cole in the form of Viner Bikes, Agisko Natural Sports Nutrition and ReArtu kit, all sourced from Italy.

The Club's intention for 2005 was to construct a senior road team to be competitive in South East road race events. In fact Agiskoviner went on to dominate the local scene, winning the South East Regional Road Race Championship, courtesy of James Holland-Leader, as well as the Surrey League Team Championship. Further road success in the following years included Tom Burke’s 4th place in the British Time Trial Championship in 2007, medals in both the south east and central road championships, and Agiskoviner placing third overall in the British Cycling team rankings in 2006.

Agiskoviner also had Under 23 and junior teams, whose primary aim was to ride in Belgium as often as possible in order to develop riders for the senior squad or to go onto bigger and better things. The success of the junior team was highlighted by them winning the National 25 mile time trial team championship in 2005, whilst Dan Davies’ victory in the 2006 Under 23 British Time Trial Championship remains as one of the stand out moments of the club’s history.

Despite undoubted success in all areas of cycle racing, it is the team’s dominance on the velodrome for which Agiskoviner has become renowned. Since its inception the club has won one World title (Joel Stewart masters pursuit 2006), five European titles (Points race twice, pursuit, madison and sprint), as well as countless National and Regional Championships. Agiskoviner riders have also represented Great Britain at elite, junior and master levels.

Perhaps the defining memory of Agiskoviner’s success was victory in the 2008 British team pursuit championship (Joel Stewart, Jon Mould, Chris Richardson, John McClelland and James Boyman). Add to this a further 10 medals in elite British championships and 3 victories in the National Track Endurance Series (John McClelland), and it is no surprise that Agiskoviner has become regarded as the top British track team of recent years.

The experience of the riders within the team has enabled Agiskoviner to develop some of the best young talent currently racing, and it is with pride that we have seen them go onto better things. The 2010 Commonwealth Games saw Jon Mould compete for Wales and Andrew Fenn for Scotland, whilst 4 riders have gained places on professional teams (Andy Fenn – AN Post, Jon Mould – 100% Me, Dan Davies – Kuota-Road, and Wouter Sybrandy – Sigma Sport).
